Populations are aging rapidly, and the elderly need more help than ever before. How might we tap on the power of technology and design to improve the way the elderly live their daily lives? How might experts from the world of fashion communication contribute to this global challenge?
As part of a collaboration between Chemistry and Lasalle College of the Arts, JL and Fariz guided Lasalle’s Fashion Media students through the design thinking process, to explore challenges faced by the elderly, and leverage on smart fashion to come up with potential solutions. Some ideas from the workshop include designing smart cane for the elderly to guide their physical exercise regime, and an interactive prosthetic leg.
We certainly hope that this imbues the importance of inclusive design in the students, as they move on to make their mark in the design field.
