Chemistry Awarded “Honorable Mention” Prize at 9th Annual International Design Awards
Chemistry has been awarded the “Honorable Mention” Prize for the design of the Singapore Visitor Centre in the commercial competition at the recent 9th Annual International Design Awards (IDA).
We are very happy to share that Chemistry has been awarded the “Honorable Mention” Prize for the design of the Singapore Visitor Centre in the commercial competition at the recent 9th Annual International Design Awards (IDA). The design was selected from over 1,000 entries, submitted by architects and designers of interiors, fashion, products, and graphics from 52 countries throughout the world.
This prize is a great honour and recognition of the work and thinking that has gone into the design and development of the Singapore Visitor Centre (SVC). The SVC was officially opened in early 2015, and since then has turned into the prime service touch points for visitors coming to Singapore.
At the core of this project was the vision to create a new, innovative, and fundamentally human-centered experience for tourists coming to Singapore. Working closely with the Singapore Tourism Board, the team at Chemistry developed a holistic Service Blueprint for the new visitor experience, underpinning the overall design. This Service Blueprint was based on extensive ethnographic research into the needs and behaviours of visitors, to ensure that the new experience would be relevant to, and in line with the expectations of modern, well-connected travellers.
Working together with the client and staff of the centre, Chemistry created a design concept based on the narrative of Singapore as a ‘melting pot’, designing a visitor experience across a set of various touch points, which focuses on personal interaction and customisation for the visitors. Key features of the center include:
Inspiring design elements and art installations like wall murals and illustrations guiding the visitors across the space, engaging them and sparking serendipitous discoveries and conversations
Interactive kiosks for visitors to create their own itineraries, focusing on rich information in a highly visual and user friendly format
Well curated souvenir shop selling quirky and one-of-a-kind souvenirs in line with the centre’s theme ‘White space’ on the 2nd floor for exhibitions, events, and functions with roster of programmes also catered to locals
But much better than reading about it, is to actually experience the centre for yourself. Next time you stroll down Orchard Road for much needed retail therapy or go for a drink at Emerald Hill, swing by the centre and see for yourself if the raving reviews some of the visitors have left are true. Plus it is never too late to explore your own city like a tourist, for you might just uncover something new. Drop us a line and let us know your thoughts.
