Chemistry celebrates 24 years with the Year of the Dragon. Taking inspiration from the mythical creature across cultures and traditions we reflect on their attributes and create a visual collage that represents Chemistry.
Every Lunar New Year, we let loose and have a little fun outside of our day-to-day work. Last year, we explored using AI for visual art with Midjourney— testing its mettle by getting it to depict famous figures as bunnies for the Year of the Rabbit.

Thought Leadership & Empathy
In Western traditions, dragons are often depicted with fearsome, horned heads, sharp teeth, and large, expressive eyes, emphasising their tenacious and menacing nature. In contrast, Eastern dragon heads, such as those in Chinese mythology, are more serpentine, adorned with flowing whiskers, and are often associated with wisdom and benevolence.
The Chemistry Dragon head is ablaze with thought leadership propelled by the multidisciplinary minds of our people. In every project, our myriad skills, like blended pixels, come together seamlessly as a team, forming our very own dragon dance. (Yes, we bring you good fortune!)
The colours of dragon scales are believed to symbolise different natural elements and abilities; the Chemistry dragon is a colourful meld of multidisciplinary powers. At our very heart, we are grounded in empathy, helping us to thrive in the multiple realms of Digital Experience Design, Service Experience Design, Business Design, Product & Spatial Design, and Graphic Design.
Strength & Value
Dragon wing design often mirrors the characteristics of different bird species. In many mythologies and fantasy literature, dragon wings are inspired by those of bats or birds, combining elements such as elongated finger bones, membranous structures, and intricate wing patterns. This creative blending of real-world animal features adds a touch of biological realism to the fantastical concept of dragon wings, making them more visually compelling and diverse in their portrayal across various cultures and fictional worlds.
When we think of wings, we think of freedom. To ponder the question of creative freedom, one only needs to reflect upon what nature has to offer. The natural world has in it a living, breathing system of circular and limitless design from which we draw inspiration. Here, the wings showcase the vastness of space, representing the limitless reach of creative freedom. On these wings, Chemistry takes flight to explore and create meaningful impact as champions of the earth.
Across the diverse mythologies of Dragons, their body parts are often considered highly valuable and used as protective armour or weapons imbued with magical properties. At Chemistry, our people are our most valuable assets. Our greatest strength comes from the unity of our virtues and values that bind us in our mission to use design for the good of people and the planet.
Balance & Resilience
Tails help animals move, communicate, and balance. In Western cultures, dragon tails are often portrayed with barbed or arrow-like tips, representing danger and a formidable defence mechanism. In contrast, in Eastern cultures, dragon tails are typically depicted as flowing and serpentine, symbolising wisdom, flexibility, and adaptability.
Digital meets Analog, East meets West— the tail of the Chemistry dragon represents the balance of our team's diverse synergy across cultures and design approaches. Adopting the use of both traditional craft and Illustrator in this creation, we borrow from the philosophy of Yin and Yang to share how we strive to strike the right balance in all that we do!
As a material, paper has stood the test of time and can take many different shapes and forms. From the Dragon's impenetrable hide to its soft and flowing tail, the characteristics of paper are synonymous with Chemistry's perseverance and adaptability in solving the ever-evolving and complex challenges of people and the planet!
